             Mrs. Bobbi Peery

Pre-Algebra and Algebra

Welcome

Success in 8th grade math will enable your student to go on to the other academic mathematics courses required for higher education and promising careers.  Today, a solid mathematical background is needed for the best positions in nearly every field.

In math, each new idea builds upon previously learned concepts; therefore, students cannot afford to fall behind.  Homework is assigned daily.  Students should have a quiet place to study that is free from distractions.

Students do their best when they, their parents, and their teacher have high but realistic expectations.  I want to encourage you and your child to keep track of the progress made throughout this course.  If you have questions, please contact me at Mustang Middle School 376-2448 ext. 6011.

Students have opportunities to self monitor.  After the first three weeks of a grading period, grades and missing assignments are posted every Thursday (by student lunch number).

Homework

·         Always “Record Your Thinking”  Write the steps under each other. Not showing work can result in earning zero points on an assignment

·         Make homework corrections in red next to each problem

Makeup Work

·         Students are responsible for makeup work.

·         Assignment Calendar ( posted in the classroom) lists all required work.

·         Copies of the worksheets are in worksheet box.

·         Students need to make arrangements to take quizzes and tests during advisory and before or after school.

·         Students are allowed one day for each day absent with an excused absence. (For example if a student is absent Monday and back Tuesday, their make up work will be due Wednesday.)

·         Late work will only be allowed with a late work pass.   These passes must be stapled to the late assignments, and students will receive 75% credit on that assignment.

Retest Policy

Students are allowed to rework any test or quiz (with exception of the quarterly exams) during tutorial times.  Students will receive half credit for problems reworked correctly.

Classroom Expectations

Successful students will:

1.      Be prepared for instruction when the bell rings

2.      Follow directions the first time they are given

3.      Work on task; complete all assignments

4.      Participate in class discussions

5.      Ask questions, if something is not clear

Parent Connect

I use special codes in our grade book system.  An a-stands for absent, a zero will be entered and replaced with a grade, if a student turns in their work with in the allotted time.  An l-stands for late and will be a zero unless the assignment is turned in with a late pass.

Tutoring

Struggling students are encouraged to come in for tutoring.  This is an extra time for students to get help with homework or make up work.

Tutoring times:
