| DIPLOMA PERSONALIZATION SYLLABUS (.5) Ms. Kathleen Dingle, Academic Dean kathleed@brookings.k12.or.us Mrs. Kristi Fulton, Teacher/Counselor kristif@brookings.k12.or.us All seniors are assigned Staff Advisors to assist with and evaluate their portfolios. Description The portfolio & project requirements were established by Oregon State Board of Education in 2007. These requirements personalize your education and are designed to better prepare you for success after high school. These requirements include (1) Education Plan and Profile, (2) Career-Related Learning Experiences, and (3) Extended Application. You have been introduced to these ideas and technology skills in middle school, now at the high school level you begin to expand your knowledge and skills to a demonstrated level of proficiency and in some of you mastery. Each year you are provided with career exploratory activities through CIS (career information system) and your BHHS classes to document your progress towards the necessary knowledge and skill to be successful. These documents of evidence are maintained by you in your E-Diploma Portfolio and updated yearly until your senior year. Your Education Plan, Goals and Profile are submited to the Guidance Office each year to be maintain in your files and your Extended Application Project is present to an evaluation panel. Requirements The requirements of this credit are; 1.Career Information System (CIS) assignments a.Career exploration website created by University of Oregon b.The assignments on this site align with the Oregon standards for career education 2.E-Diploma Portfolio completion a.Houses all the documented evidence of meeting the requirements and standards i.CIS assignments are stored here b.There are three main parts that are presented to a staff advisor or panel i.Education Plan & Profile ii.Career Related Learning Experiences iii.Extended Application (EA) Project 3.Extended Application (senior project) of 30 hours a.This is the final project generally done senior year b.May be approved and began 2nd semester of junior year 4.Final Oral Presentation with Technology Component a.This presentation is done a student’s senior year to a local panel of teachers and community members. Materials/Resources Needed • Computer Access - at school and/or outside of school • Your BHHS server Identification and Password (set up by student) • Career Information System (CIS) Identification and Password • G-drive e-portfolio set up on the high school server. • Flash drive to back-up the E-Portfolio (optional) • Folder or binder to keep hard copies of instructions and other documents organized Homework • All assignments and documents for your grade level are found on the BHHS Guidance & Career website year round. • A paper copy is provided through regular classes and the guidance office. • Most required portfolio documents have templates which can be downloaded from the website. Always test the documents, sometimes you have to save twice or save as a word document. CIS assignments are saved in your Diploma Portfolio in your CIS file. • You should work to complete and save the activities, assigned documents and updates each year. • All classes provide you with at least 2 days in the library or computer lab to work on CIS assignment and portfolio documents. • Students may work ahead on activities but the Extended Application cannot be done prior to the winter of a students’ junior year. • Instruction & guidance is provided in specific classes but the completion of the activities is expected to occur during the students’ home and school study times. • BHHS computers are available in the library, computer lab, guidance office and various classrooms before school, after school and lunch. Remember there is the public library. Staff & Guidance Advisors are available for assistance and support Grading/Evaluation - scoring guide being updated for the 2011-12 year Your portfolio is evaluated (graded) by your senior staff advisory about 2-week before your senior presentation. The final evaluation occurs at your Senior Presentation. A copy of the scoring rubric/guide can be obtained on the Guidance Website so student know from the beginning how they will be scored or 'graded.' A 18 to 17 pts; College Credit; completed E-Portfolio Pass 18 to 15 pts; College Credit; completed E-Portfolio Pass 18 to 11pts; No College Credit; completed E-Portfolio No-Pass 10pt or less; incomplete E-Portfolio (presentation must be redone) *Points may be adjusted if the rubric changes, you will be given advanced notice if it occurs. *If ALL components are not completed credit cannot be awarded. SOCC Dual Credit Criteria Southwestern Oregon Community College and BHHS offer dual credit for successfully completing the high school and college requirements. This is FREE credit to the student. College Credit Criteria: 1. Average score of between 18 and 15 on presentation (if rubric change scores will be adjusted) 2. Proficiency in all required portfolio items as per the evaluation sheet criteria. 3. Meeting with Ms. Dingle to review their portfolio as she is the SWOCC teacher of record. 4. Meet required portfolio & presentation due dates and deadlines. No Plagiarism: The portfolio documents, any research, the project documents and reflections submitted shall be the submitting student’s own work or appropriately attributed, in part or in whole, to its correct source. Submission of commercially prepared (or group prepared) materials or previously done projects as if they are one’s own work is unacceptable. Aiding Honesty in Others: Students will encourage honesty in others by refraining from providing materials or information to another person with knowledge that these materials or information will be used improperly. Violations of these academic standards may result in the assignment of a failing grade and subsequent loss of credit, thus not graduating on time. Rigor : • Applies academic and specialized knowledge and skills appropriate to the students’ personal, academic, and/or career interests and after-high school goals and plans. • Applies academic and specialized knowledge and skills in complex or non-routine situations where there is some individual responsibility and autonomy. Reflection (your thoughts and feelings): • Reflects on relevance of evidence • Reflects on rigor of evidence. Technology – demonstrated through the presentation, development of portfolio and project: Helpful Terminology: Proficiency: Having a high degree of skill. Career Related Learning Standards/Essential Skills: The fundamental skills essential for success in employment, education, family, and community life. Career Related Learning Experiences: Short experiences not necessarily connected to the extended application where a student demonstrates their development and proficiency of the career related learning standards. These begin in 9th grade. Extended Application: nA 30 hour project of interest to the student and their goals. It is preferably, but not necessarily, community service based. The project must be rigorous (challenging with new and extended learning), relevant (connects to student's goals or interests and the essential skills for job and/or education) and reflective (what did the student gain, what relationships were developed). E-Portfolio: This is the collection of evidence placed in an electronic format. This is evaluated by a staff advisory. Evaluation/Presentation: Student create an electronic presentation about their goals and extended application to a panel of educators and community professionals for scoring. |
