This is to enable you to pass the required OAKS testing. Beginning this upcoming school year students must demonstrate proficiency in three areas, they are reading, writing and math. A student first demonstrate proficiency by passing the OAKS test (Oregon Assessment of Knowledge & Skills). For those students not fully prepared to meet these standards new classes have been developed as well as restructuring existing ones to enable student success. Strategic Reading & Global Studies will be offered to bring 9th & 10th grade students up to grade level reading & writing. Student who did not pass their 8th grade OAKS testing and continued to exhibit difficulties at high school will be placed in these classes to enable their success. All students will be enroled in either Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or Integrated Math Topics: The math department will be working through the summer to restructure their math classes so that essential skills will be taught, retaught and then remediated for those struggling. Students that excell will have the opportunity to go deeper into concepts and increase their higher math skills. The math department will be happy to answer questions in the fall. (Pre-Calculus or AP Calculus are still available just not a state requirement unless meeting the 3rd year requirement). ________________________________________________________________________ RESOURCES Oregon Career Information System http://oregoncis.uoregon.edu/home/ Oregon Dept of Ed.
