Essential Skills Test and Work Sample Requirements for Graduation

When you receive your class schedule in the fall you may notice there are some math or English classes you hadn't signed up for.  This is to enable you to pass the required OAKS testing and meet state and national required standards for receiving a standard high school diploma.

Having started with the class of 2012 students must demonstrate proficiency in three areas, they are reading, writing and math.  A student first demonstrates proficiency by passing the OAKS test (Oregon Assessment of Knowledge & Skills), opportunities to demonstrate proficiency through work samples is also given throughout the year.  For those students not fully prepared to meet these standards new support classes have been developed as well as restructuring existing ones to enable student success.

Class of 2013 - Proficiency in Reading & Writing      Class of 2014 and beyond - Reading, Writing & Math

Daily Workshops with an advisory has been created for all students and will provide intervention support 3 days a week for any student not reaching proficiency levels in all classes and subject areas. Students reaching proficiency or mastery in classes  (A, B or C) will have the option of starting their lunch period early or staying for study and support.  Students needing the support will be able to work with a workshop teacher in one or more of the areas they need assistance in until proficiency is reached.

"Plus" classes will be offered to bring 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students up to grade level reading & writing and math skills. Student who did not pass their OAKS testing, may not have passed their English, Algebra or Geometry class, and/or continued to exhibit difficulties at high school will be placed in these classes to enable their success. Plus classes will also meet your elective requirements toward graduation so nothing is lost, everything is gained.
