Thank you for visiting our class website.  I hope it will help you help your child to succeed in science this year.  In this section, I will try to address the questions most frequently asked by parents.  If your question is not answered here or you have specific questions related to your child, please email me at abzeigenbein@interact.ccsd.net.  I look forward to working with you this year!

Some places of interest on this website:

  • Looking for tonight's homework or what your child missed during an absence?  Check out the Homework!
  • Other frequently asked questions:

    • What will my child be learning about this year?
      • Life Science is the name of the game in 6th grade!  If you are interested in more detail, you can read up on the Course Scope & Goals.
    • What is my child's current grade?
      • Visit ParentLink for this information.  Grades are updated weekly online, but students can also check with me before or after school for their most current grade.
    • What is my child's grade based on?
    • Is there extra credit available?
      • Not at this time.
    • Can my child turn in late work?  Can my child redo an assignment?
      • Late work will be accepted, but students cannot earn full credit on an assignment that is turned in late.  There will be one-half point deducted for each week that an assignment is late.  Late work will only be accepted up to the cut-off date for that assignment (middle and end of each quarter).

      • Students will be allowed to redo most assignments until they are satisfied with their grade up to the cut-off date for that assignment.  Students must have turned in the assignment on time AND meet with me before completing a redo assignment.  To receive an improved grade, students must completely redo the assignment, not just correct missed items.  For some assignments, a redo grade can only be obtained by completing an alternative assignment.

    • What materials does my child need for class?

      • Every day, they should bring lines paper,  pencils, and ink pens.  Colored pencils and highlighters would also be very useful.

    • When will my child have homework?

      • There will be a vocabulary packet for homework every week. Students get the definitions in class and are to complete exercises 3, 4, 5 & 6 at home. The packet always goes home the first day of the week and is due on Friday.  Again, the homework section (and your child's planner) is a great place to look for information on daily assignments.

    • Why haven't I seen a textbook at home?

      • Because our textbook is primarily used for class activities, it is not generally needed at home.  However, if you would like your child to have one at home, just send me a note!

    • How can I help my child in English?

      • Use the Links I have compiled as resources.

      • Help them study notes and key term charts.

      • Encourage them to make an appointment with me if they need more one-on-one explanations.

    • What should I do to stay informed?

      • You are already doing the best thing...visiting the website!

      • Read your child's planner and make sure they are completing it daily.

      • Check grades.

      • Ask your child to tell you one new thing they learned in English that day or to tell you about the writing piece they are currently working on.
