After School Tutoring
We now have the opportunity for students to say after school for tutoring or catching up on school work. The following days, teachers, and room numbers are available for students to receive help with English or reading.
Tuesday- Mrs. Childers Room 722
Wednesday- Ms. Bins Room 810 OR Mr. Flood Room 218
Thursday- Mrs. Childers Room 722
Criterion Writing
Students first registered and used the Criterion Writing online writing evaluation tool Wednesday, November 9. Criterion will be a weekly part of the English curriculum for the rest of the year. Every Wednesday students will be spending the day in the computer lab working on a writing assignment that they complete in Criterion. The program then "grades" the paper and gives instant feedback on weaknesses with suggestions for making the paper better. Students will be accountable for the work they do in Criterion and they will have access at home. A link to the site has been added to My Links and is listed below if students have lost their user guide. I will also be posting a user guide in the near future for reference.
edmodo
I will be taking advantage of a very cool educational opportunity with my English classes. edmodo is a secure online application that allows students to leave notes for each other about group projects, class activities or assignments, and other school-related issues. The site is monitored by me, (I get an email every time someone makes a post), and functions very similarly to Facebook. Students can only join my class if I have given them the special code for joining my class. This informal means of communication also allows students to post questions to me about assignments or school activities. Participation in edmodo is not required at this time, I am simply providing it as a way for the students to have a secure location to discuss their group projects. I have included the link below. Please feel free to check it out yourself. Email me with any questions or concerns you may have.
There is an informative video in the upper right corner of the home screen if you are interested in watching it. There is a parent function, however, parents need a code which is supplied by me. If you are interested in getting a parent code, please email me directly and I will provide you with one as soon as I have it.
