Sra. Ana J. Reyes-Ramirez – Spanish 6-8

Hola  ¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español!  I have some exciting news to share with you.  Spanish is spoken by more than 400 million people around the world.  In the United States, more than 44 million people speak Spanish, making it the second most spoken language.   Here at St. Pius X Spanish is a core subject for the middle school students.  We will have Spanish every day and students need to do their homework, review their class lesson and practice every day at home.

Learning another language is a challenging experience but if the student follows my tips and rules, learning Spanish will be fun and exciting.

We will be using the ¿Cómo te va? Book series, a three –level Middle School Spanish program developed by Glencoe.  With the program, students will move seamlessly from one level to the next one.  It consists of ¿Cómo te va? Intro,  Nivel rojo, for grade 6th, ¿Cómo te va? A, Nivel verde, for grade 7th, and ¿Cómo te va? B, Nivel azul, for grade 8th.  The goal in this series is to help students learn the Spanish language and the Hispanic cultures in a fun and interesting manner.

Upon successfully completion of the program and at the end of 8th grade, students will be ready to take and pass the New York State Spanish Test.  They will be place into Spanish II in high school.

Calling all parents! Calling all parents!

Dear parents, I will need your support by encouraging your children to practice every day and exposed them to Spanish as much as possible.  How? You may rent videos or movies in Spanish, go to Spanish restaurants, visit Spanish speaking countries via internet, etc., anything will be helpful.

Keep in mind that besides opening a door to the Hispanic speaking world there are other great benefits in learning another language: “research has shown that learning another language enhances intellectual development and improves overall school performance.  Students of foreign languages tend to score higher on standardized tests, including both verbal and math portions of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).  They show more advanced problem solving skills and a clearer understanding of English structure and vocabulary.  And adults who are fluent in a foreign language often have better career opportunities than those who are not.” (BabyClassroom.com)

So let's have fun learning the language of Cervantes and traveling to the Hispanic World and Cultures...

Come on, vámonos.
Everybody let’s go.
Come on, let’s get to it.
I know that we can do it.

Where are we going?
¿A dónde vamos?
Where are we going?                                                                                                      ¿A dónde vamos?
Where are we going?
¿A dónde vamos?
A la clase de español
