The E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center would like to invite you to their upcoming Open House, so you can see first hand the facility and staff in action ... and get a glimpse of what they offer the students in our county.   We hope you will be able to attend.

The E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center at Nokuse Plantation will host “Creating a Garden with Children” Open House Event on Saturday, March 27, from 9:00a.m.-3:00p.m.  The exhibit hall will be open, guided hikes will be available, scheduled films will be featured and Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist children in planting seedlings in the Center’s new vegetable garden.  Public is welcome.

Music Production:

The first grade music program will be on March 30th at 6:30. We have received all shirts. Thanks!

Spelling Words:

ice, nice, race, page, edge, large, home, those, love, hello

If your child  made a 100 on the pretest, a new set of challenge words will be sent home today.

Challenge Words:

place, replace, trace, embrace, barge, charge, pledge, budge

Please know that if your child takes the challenge test, his or her grade will not be held against him or her. These are strictly a way of differentiating instruction and providing learning for those who already know the featured words.

Vocabulary Words:

orbit- to move around something

solar system- contains the sun and its eight planets

planet- a large body of rock or gas that orbits the sun

Math:

We will learn about congruency this week. We will revisit making and recognizing pairs. We will also continue working on the doubles plus one strategy for addition.

Science:

This week we will be learning exciting facts about the sun and stars. The students will log the facts they learn in a space journal.

Writing:

We will be learning all about nouns and adjectives this week. The students will use Promethean flipcharts for a hands-on approach to the acquisition of these concepts. We will also be dabbling with them in our writing.

Special Student:

I wanted to let the entire Parker's Paradise family know about one special student. Alyssa had an unbelievable week last week! She has done something that no other student has ever done in my class. On Tuesday, Alyssa was chosen as Music Student of the Day. On Wednesday, she received the Awesome Exerciser Award at PE. On Thursday, she was chosen as the Artist of the Day in art and on Friday, she was chosen as Mrs. Spivey's Student of the Day for making a 100 on her spelling test and being kind to her classmates. Way to go Alyssa! We are all so proud of you!!

There will be no reading homework tonight or on Thursday. Please have your child pick a book from home to read.
