Course Selection

The time has come to begin course selection for 12th grade!  All 11th grade students have had an opportunity to attend a pre-scheduling session with me and make a preliminary selection of courses for next year.  All information should be coming home with your student for your review.  Final course selections should be made on their white registration form and turned into me in the Guidance Office by March 10th!

There are several options that students can choose from as Seniors that they have not had in previous years so if you have questions please ask!  Because their senior schedules are very individualized, I will be calling students in in small groups throughout the months of March and April to finalize their course selections and make sure their credits for graduation are satisfied.

You will find linked from this page the presentation given to all 11th graders as well as the registration forms for your reference...if you need additional copies of the forms please feel free to print them from the website.

Cecil College classes

offered at Rising Sun High School

The following classes will be offered at Rising Sun High School during the 2008-09 school year (1st period block):

Semester I

Introduction to Philosophy

Introduction to Psychology

Semester II

Introduction to Sociology

Introduction to Public Speaking

Students must:

  1. submit an application to Cecil College
  2. take Cecil College Skills Assessment (was given here Feb 11th)

How it works:

  • One class meets Monday & Thursday (1st period)
  • One class meets Tuesday & Friday (1st period)
  • On days you do not have a class scheduled you do not have to report to school until 2nd period.  If you do not drive you may ride the bus and report to the media center to study.
  • Students with a 2.5 GPA or higher qualify for a 50% tuition break (application required)
  • Preference is given to seniors
  • Students earn 3 college credits for successful completion of each class – no high school credit is awarded

Enrollment in these courses is an excellent way to start your college career and show college admissions offices that you are ready for the challenge of college level work
