Parents,

I will send a homework packet home each week.  Remember there will not be a lot of homework due to the amount of learning that takes place in the classroom.  However, there are some things that need extra reinforcement at home.

Your child should spend no more than 45 minutes on homework.  Fifteen minutes should include reading. If your child is reading a chapter book they may need a little longer to read an assigned chapter. Contact me if you ever have any concerns.

This year I will be sending their VA Math SOL Review book home with them for practice on the skills taught in class.  They will circle the page or pages they will be doing for homework.  Each child should know what to do when they sit down to complete their assignment, however, if they miss something you may encourage them to rethink the problem.  I will ONLY be taking a completion grade on homework.  It is more important that I know what I need to reteach than them coming in with a perfect grade because we, as parents, worry about their grades.  Trust me, I am one of those parents!  My job, as your child's teacher, is to teach your child, and I will gladly except that challenge.

Sincerely.

Amy Herndon
