Marshall                               Taylor, Mary Katherine, and Tori

My name is Amy Herndon.  I live in Bristol, Tn. with my husband (Russell, who was my high school sweetheart!), daughter (Mary Katherine 14), son (Marshall 8), and two sweet poodles (Jackson 12 and Walter 2)!

I was born and raised in Bristol.  In 1990, I graduated from Virginia High School.  After 10 years at home with my children I graduated from Virginia Intermont College with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies.  I loved every bit of my college experience.

In 2005-2006, while I was completing my degree I was hired as a Preschool teacher working at Sullins Academy in Bristol, Va.

For the 2006-2007 school year, I was a first grade teacher at Marion Primary School.  My year was filled with great rewards.  I love teaching children to read!

My three years at Washington-Lee have been extraordinary!  The students quickly exceeded all my expectations.  They are amazing.  I enjoy working with the faculty and the parents to to help make each child's year a success!

Mary Katherine will be attending Baylor School in Chattanooga.  She was a finalist for the Distinguished Scholar's Award.  Her hobbies include swimming, working out, and reading.

Marshall will be in the third grade at Washington-Lee Elementary.  He loves to play games, swim, cub scouts, T-ball, golf, football, and spend extra time with his daddy!

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher because I had compassion for all children.  My belief is that everyone is special and should be given an equal opportunity to make the world a better place.  After a few years of teaching and raising children of my own, I have come to believe that "fair is not always equal."  This is why differentiated instruction is important for the success of all students.

So far, my experience as a teacher has brought enough rewards to last a lifetime!  I can't believe how lucky I am to be able to go to work and see all the smiling, eager faces.

One of my favorite quotes:  You can teach a lesson for a day, but if you teach curiosity; you teach for a lifetime~
