Unit 2 will be taught in homeroom classes. It is all about two-digit addition and subtraction with and without regrouping. It is never too early to start practicing this at home. We will be starting chapter 9 this week. It is a new skill of subtracting two-digit numbers with regrouping! After chapter nine, we will move on to chapter ten, which includes more practice for this skill. My homeroom class does a math program called "Mastering Math Facts." For addition, there are levels A-Z, with 40 problems to be done in one minute. Currently, the average student is on level "M". The highest level now is "T", and the lowest is "F". Keep practicing at home with flash cards. Watch for the Family Involvement Packets and please complete them with your child. I see your child for one hour a day for math class. Any help you can give at home is greatly appreciated. Even if your child does not have math homework, please quiz them over things that you know we are working on in class. Thanks again. Practice math flash cards every night! You can also be practicing counting money and telling time. These are second grade skills that can sometimes cause problems for students. I can't emphasize math facts enough. You would be so surprised to see how many students in OLDER grades, that still can't do math facts quickly. Please make my job and your child's learning a little easier by practicing them now.
