I found this interesting because to think there might be living things out in the world that no one knows about is crazy. To think that people like us could be out there. They said theres over seven billion stars just in our galaxy and there are billions of galaxy's. Just to think that people could be out there far away living just like us. Earth is so big you could never know everyone but then thinking there could be other worlds that could have millions more people really is interesting to me. posted 9/9/2009 1:59 PM

Article: Are We Alone In The Universe?
My Comments: I find the concept of other forms of life in the universe very intriging. The idea of not being alone is comforting and leads to so many new oppertunities and questions. The discovery could also benifit the understanding of the creation of life in general. The article itself discusses the past and on going searches to find this new life and even though nothing has been found yet the human race is far from giving up on the idea and so am I.

What Can Replace Cheap Oil--and When? i choose this article because i am directly affected by the oil crisis as a future driver. Unless we find a new source of energy our oil reserves may soon be depleted. Prices are already skyrocketing and current fuel powered cars may be obsolete. Energy alternatives are widely available but the cost to harvest these energys can be high and not as efficent. Oil is about to peak and the time is running out for new alternatives that are a necesity in the growing world and economy. posted 9/9/2009 2:01 PM

I chose the article on how much a human life span can be extended. They are testing methods on mice to see how long they can make them last. People became curious about this topic after a woman died at age 122 in 1997. This would be a really cool topic to learn more about and find a solution to make people live longer. The only way it would be good is if it could effect everyone because some people dont like living past their generations time. They dont have anyone their own age to relate to. posted 9/9/2009 2:04 PM

I picked the article titled "How Are Memories Stored and Retrieved?". I found this article exceptionally interesting for several reasons. The human mind is an amazing organ, and the concept of a memory is intriguing. How can a person remember images and conversations? And what causes people to forget things? If the mysteries surrounding memories could be unraveled, I believe that many medical advancements would follow. posted 9/9/2009 2:04 PM

ARE WE ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE
This article discusses the possibilities of extraterrestrial life existing in the universe. The article says that there are already 150 different planets in the area near the solar system. Workers in SETI have been searching for outside life for about 45 years. The SETI institute is located in Mountain View, California. The SETI program works by sending out radio emissions hoping for a response from outer space.

How are Memories Stored and Retrieved?
I decided to read this article because I find memory and brains very interesting. The different ways of how brains can remember and not remember things interest me. From the article I learned that scientists now have been researching the various kinds of memory as well as which parts of the brain are involved in each. Scientists still seem unsure of some things, but are continuously researching and experimenting.

Are we alone in the universe? 25 years seems like a lot, but knowing that within 25 years, we'll possibly be able to discover extraterrestrial life, it seems so close. It's kind of spine tingling knowing that there's possibly some other life form or anything out there! Only thing is, $35 million dollars is a LOT of money. And as interesting as it may be to discover other life forms in the universe, people aren't going to want to put money together to raise $35 million dollars. Listening for outside life is also a shocking discovery! Putting antennas on the virtual telescopes is one step closer to actually discovering 'E.T.' posted 9/9/2009 2:06 PM

Are We Alone in the Universe?
I chose to write about this article, beacuse i am interested in this topic very much. i am nervous to see if there are any more living organisms in the universe besides humans. it would be interseting to see if we could go to mars and meet new organisms. if we did, would we interact with them well? Or would we start a conflict with living things on another planet?

How Are Memmories Stored and Retrieved? Greg Miller
We think that the article brings up a great question. Not alot of people think about how we think or remember. We take for granted that our ears help us so much. They take in all of the information we know today, that we need to know tommorow. Their have been many experiments on animals to help with these studies and make advances.

"What is the Biological Basis of Consciouness?"
-Until recently, the study of consciousness and such was really only something that philosophers studied. But that is no more. Now scientists are getting in on the studies and trying to unlock the mysteries of consciousness. A theory is that different parts of consciousness are controlled by different parts of the brain. More and more information is being discovered and now it is a lot easier for younger scientists to get into the field.

"What is the biological basis of conciousness?" I picked this article because im interested in activity of the human brain and both the philisophical and scientific reasoning behind that. Experiments underway at this time only solve peices of this large puzzle. Conciousness emerges from chemical signals inside the brain. Scientists are having difficulty finding ways to interpret these signals. Most like to think of body and mind as two parts of the whole body. posted 9/9/2009 2:07 PM

Are we alone in the Universe?... We chose this article because we are interested in life out of our Earth. It is hard to imagine that were not the only ones in our universe. It is still uncertain to scientist if there is. However, there is a good chance that it does exist. Hopefully, we will soon discover other life forms on other planets. posted 9/9/2009 2:07 PM

How are Memoires Stores and Retained? I was intereseted in this article because I have no idea how memories and stored and retained. Neurologists have made many discoveries about how memories are stored, yet many questions are still unanswered. They have discovered key brain regions and potential molecular mechanisms. Scientists are working long hours to find out how how memories and retained and stored. posted 9/9/2009 2:08 PM

To What Extent Are Genetic Variation and Personal Health Linked?
The article to me is a little bland. It beats around the bush and dosen't realy explain much. However this topic is one I consider very important. These terrible deseases that are linked to a persons genetics and not personal choices are one that should be cured. It's kinda scary that some things we have absolutly no control over and are born with.

How Much Can Human Life Span Be Extended?
I found this fascinating because what if humans could live longer then they normally could. Even though immortality may not be as great as people think. They so far have ran tests on short-life animals like worms and fruit flies with their life span increasing however, these tests are still small, and tests on humans may be to dangerous. but that won't stop scientists from finding the secret of aging
