Classroom Rules and Policies Student/Parent Letter

Cypress Bay High School

Honors Algebra II/Analysis of Functions

Dear Student and Parents/Guardians,

As a team, which includes students, parents and teacher, we will work to achieve success in your math class.  Rules, guidelines, and suggestions are listed below to help in your achievement.

Guidelines for Success

            Be responsible.

            Always try.

            Do your best.

            Cooperate with others.

Treat everyone with respect (including yourself).

Class Rules

  1. I will come to class every day that I am not sick.
  2. I will arrive on time with my own pencil and paper.
  3. I will keep hands, feet, and objects to myself.
  4. I will speak or leave my seat only with permission.
  5. I will have my cell phone and electronic devices turned off in the classroom.
  6. I will follow directions the first time.
  7. I will stay on task during all work times.

Entering the Classroom

  1. Be in the room before the bell rings.
  2. Have your folder ready.
  3. Begin work on the daily activity.
  4. Quietly work on this activity until I signal for your attention.

Ending Class

One minute before the end of class, I will ask you to organize your own materials and complete any necessary cleanup tasks.  You will be excused by rows, after the bell rings.

Attendance

Refer to the Broward County School Board’s Code of Conduct for school’s attendance and tardy policy.  This policy will be adhered to closely.  You are responsible for completing all the work independently for the days you missed. Always be in class if you are not seriously ill!

Tardy to Class

If you are in the classroom before the bell rings, then you are on time.  If you enter after the bell rings, then you are tardy.  In addition, the school’s tardy policy will be followed accordingly.

Consequences for Classroom Rule Violations

If you violate a rule, you may be assigned a consequence.  Depending on the frequency and severity of the misbehavior, you may receive one or more of the following consequences:

*Parental contact

*Change in seating assignment

*Time owed after class

*Detention

*Office Referral

Make Up Work

The Code of Conduct allows two days to makeup work after an excused absence.  No makeup work is allowed unless associated with an excused absence.  If a student is absent on the day of a test or quiz, they must make it up within five days, only on Mondays after school. A score of zero (Z) will be entered in the grade-book until the test or quiz is taken.  It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements to complete the test.  I will be staying late  on Monday only for make up work (from 3:00 – 4:00).

Passes

Students should use the restroom between classes.  A pass (a total of 6 per quarter) will only be issued in case of an emergency.  If your child has a medical condition and needs to use the restroom often, please call me.

Homework

Homework will typically be assigned every day, checked daily, and collected for a grade the day of the chapter test.  Homework is given credit upon completion, effort and accuracy.  No late homework will be accepted unless associated with an excused absence.  Students must show applicable work or no credit will be given.  NO PENS ARE ALLOWED. IF PEN IS USED TO DO THE MATH WORK, NO CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN.

Grading Policy

The grade will be based on the following:

TESTS-approximately one per week or per chapter

QUIZZES-anytime

CLASSWORK- active participation, being in class on time, doing the work at all times, trying your best

HOMEWORK-anytime and the day of each chapter test.
