Tuesday, October 6, 2009 6:30 pm – Library 14 Members Present Welcome! Thank you for coming! · Meeting called to order at 6:35 pm by President Clare Scott. · Clare asked when speaking or making a motion, please state your name first to help with minutes. Prior Month Meeting Minutes – Review and approve (Tanya S) Treasurer’s Report – Review (Dianne) · Account Balances reviewed by Dianne · Budget will be posted online with the minutes for all to review. Motion to approve minutes & treasurers report: 1st: Fran Ledeboer 2nd: Jennifer Howanitz All Executive Committee Report · Paperless Meetings – Take 2 · Newsletter will be paperless beginning this month (Tanya) · PTO Manager – Important to update your profile, we build our directory from this and we use this to identify volunteers. Teacher Remarks – Mrs. Holmes had nothing to report. Items for Review, Discussion & Voting: Yearbook (Marcie) · Review / vote on prices for 2009/2010 Yearbook · Proposed price: $13 (50 cent increase) ~ Larger book, all color Motion to approve 50 cent increase in yearbook: 1st: Marcie Hottinger 2nd: Debby Keba All Sunny D Book Spree (Susan D) · The goal is at least 20 books per grade level. · Please send in the UPC symbols as you cut them! Please do not hold onto them. · Teachers box in the coffee room. Roller Skating Party (Clare for Kathy) · Set for Monday, November 2nd at Skateaway (5:30-8:30 pm) · Feedback on sending home flyer vs. using e-mail/PTO Manager. · Tickets must be purchased prior to event. No ticket sales at the door! Party Parents (Sue & Fran) · Welcome Spring Party was changed back to Valentine’s Party · Party Parent Meeting - Friday, November 13th at 9:10 – Room 145 Movie Night (Fran) · Look for a flyer with ticket sale information to be sent home by end of week. No tickets will be sold at the door. Children MUST be accompanied and supervised by an adult. · First movie is October 23rd – Bedtime Stories. It is rated PG. · Bring pillows, blankets, sleeping bags, etc. · Popcorn & water will be sold at the event. No outside food or beverage allowed in the gym! Family Night (Debby & Steph) · Kick-Off Meeting at Carolyn Price’s House 10/7 at 6:30 pm · Looking for a coat check coordinator. Will be responsible for coordinating the high school students sent over by the faculty advisor. · Will be looking for additional specific assistance as the group solidifies the plans. Directory Update (Clare) · Sue McGorry is working on it. Many parents did not update profile from last year, so we need to scrub the data. · Directory should be complete by end of the month. · Tanya Smargiassi & Susan Dellicker offered to help Sue McGorry with data cleansing. Dianne Searcy suggested contacting PTO Manager to see if there is an easy way to do this. Clare will pass along to Sue. Copy Committee (Clare for Sheryl) · Still looking for volunteers too help with copying, laminating, cutting, etc… If you have a free hour please contact Sheryl. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated. · Please update your preferences in PTO Manager, and Sheryl sends out regular communication to list about what help is needed. Committee in Need of Coordinators (Clare) Weisenberg Walkers: A committee chair is needed for this program that encourages walking during recess periods. Coordinator works with the Copy/Office Committee on tallying the laps the kids do (reported by teachers) and distributing Tiger Paws. There is a bulletin board available in the cafeteria if you would like to show their progress. Coordinates a party in May. Fall Festival (Clare for Francine) · Committee is in need of a parent to set up the science experiments on that day and to coordinate the volunteers. If interested please contact Francine. Carolyn Price expressed interest. . Guest Speaker (Clare) · Lori Seier, Director of Food Services · Lori talked about the new software package Food Services is using (Nutrikids) and how the menu will change this year. They have contracted with a new produce company and a new bread company. · Lori hopes to set up a kid advisory board in the elementary school soon. · Lori talked about the process for adding new menu items. She said they give each new item a “3 strikes” try – if they have it on the menu 3 times and it is not popular it is removed. · Lori Seier’s office is across from Mrs. Cartier’s office this year. · Lori encourages parents to stop in and have lunch with their child. · Questions about what A La Carte items are available. Principal Remarks (Mrs. Cartier) · Open House – Great turnout! Mrs. Cartier got feedback from the staff. There were some formal presentations by teachers. Parent response was mixed. Some liked the formal presentations and others were upset they couldn’t go straight to the classrooms. · Friday October 9th is a half day and Monday October 12th is an in-service day. · Mrs. Cartier would like to brainstorm with some parents regarding dismissal for Fall Festival and days parties are scheduled. Carolyn Price volunteered to assist. · Fall Festival – All kindergarteners will be in the AM · Family Math Night for grades 3 – 5 is scheduled for 10/22 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. If interested in helping out contact Mrs. Cartier. · There is a 30 minute block by grade level to reinforce skills every day/interventions. Kids are not missing content instruction while doing this. Discussion Items from the Floor (Open) · Kidstuff missing 25 books, distribution set for Tuesday · There is a family in need of clothing: Girls pants size 13/14, top size 13/14; boys pants 30 x 30, shirts men’s medium; girls pants junior size 5, top size misses medium; boys pants 32 x 32, shirts men’s large. Drop off at Mrs. McGrath’s office. · Next food delivery Friday 10/16/09. · A 2nd food donation box was placed at the private transportation drop off area. Mrs. Cartier is going to look into getting a larger box for clothing donation for the entryway. · Movie night – free entrance to staff. Thank you for attending our PTO Meeting.
