Dear Parents,
There will be a Science test next Tuesday on chapter two and the Windows on Science notes. We will not have any Spelling, Religion, or Reading tests next week.
Assignment Degree of difficulty/effort required Due Date Language Arts Poem 3 11/24/08 Indian habitat extra credit 2-3 12/1/08 Book report 2 12/5/08 NC project 4-5 12/8/08
The Unit 3 writing assignment is to write a 4-verse poem in a particular pattern. It must be four verses of four lines each. It should be handwritten on loose-leaf in pen and in cursive. They can single space this one. They must identify the pattern they chose with capital printed letters to the right of each line. The end of unit three explains what the project is all about.
The Indian habitat extra credit will be explained in class. It will have a maximum value of 10 points if the entire village is done. I will also give up to 5 points for just the dwellings such as a long house or a tepee if appropriate. I am only looking for Native American tribes associated with North Carolina that have been discussed in class. I will also accept the Cherokee, because we will start discussing them next week as we move on to the Mountain region. As always, keep the “footprint” pretty small.
It was nice seeing all of you at the parent/teacher conferences last week. I think that’s the best attendance I have ever had. As I mentioned, please read to your child and have them read to you. Please continue to work on multiplication and other basic math facts also.
We could use some of the small ‘squarish” boxes of tissues for the baskets on the student desks if anyone would like to donate. Thanks for your great response on wipes! We should be good for a while on those.
I have an annual field trip to the Governor’s Mansion, the Raleigh City Museum, the Capitol, the Legislature, and the History museum. If you might me interested in this field trip, drop me a note or an email.
Mrs. Stanco has included a memo that will explain our Green Corn Festival for next week.
Sincerely, Walt Milowic
