PTSA’s SafeHomes/SafePaths The SafeHomes Program is sponsored by the Victor Central PTSA and supported by Victor Parks & Recreation and the Ontario County Sheriff’s Department. SafeHomes provides a way for parents to establish clear expectations of “no use” of tobacco, alcohol or other drugs by minors. Participation in the SafeHomes program is offered to all families with children of any school age. SafeHomes is a national parent program recognized by the US Department of Education. To be included in the SafeHomes E-Directory and to receive an E-Directory, parents are asked to sign the SafeHomes pledge supporting the goals of the program. What is SafeHomes/SafePaths? The SafeHomes national program was introduced to Victor Central Schools through the PTSA. SafeHomes provides a network for parents to communicate with other families and establish clear expectations of "no use" of tobacco, alcohol or other drugs by minors. Participation in the SafeHomes program is offered to all families with children of any school age SafePaths is a student-based program that emphasizes positive self-esteem and taking responsibility for making healthy choices. The SafePaths program is purely voluntary for any interested student in grades K-12. SafeHomes/SafePaths benefits include: - SafeHomes parents feel comfortable contacting other parents prior to parties or gatherings of their children hosted in other homes.
- SafeHomes parents will have access to the names of parents participating in the program and are part of a support network for parents with similar concerns.
- SafeHomes parents communicate with our young people that parents do care and are taking the initiative to deal with the problems of teenage alcohol/drug use.
- SafePaths offers information sharing and mentoring for students and youth in our community. By learning healthy choice-making skills and to take responsibility for their own behaviors, students are much better prepared for life choices around drugs/alcohol, coping with peer pressure, and violence as young adults.
- SafePaths offers students an opportunity to join the Victor Central SADD Chapter (Students Against Destructive Decisions) at the Senior and Junior High Schools.
