Need Help? Want your Middle Schooler to Succeed?
An article on how you can help.

Need Help Keeping Your Child on Track?

As a parent, you are the most important influence in your child’s life.  That means you have an incredible impact on how successful your child is this year in middle school.  Here are some things you can do to help.

Stay Informed with Parent Link!

You can keep track of your student’s progress by accessing his/her grades and attendance using our Parent Link online system.  Parent Link is updated weekly and shows grades, missing assignments and attendance.  Also, you can use Parent Link to email your child’s teachers. Parent Link passwords are mailed home the first week of school.  Additional passwords can be obtained by coming into the school office and showing identification.

Schedule Homework time!

Homework doesn’t just happen.  Schedule a time at least four days a week when your child will work on homework.  This should be at a time when you or other adults are home to monitor and assist the homework process.  Ideally, find a place in your home where a student can work quietly, but is not isolated.  A child’s bedroom offers too many distractions and is not usually a good place for doing homework.  The kitchen table is often the perfect spot.  Once you have a time and place for homework, make sure it is done consistently.  If your student says there is no homework to do, have him or her find something to read or study.  “I don’t have any homework” should not be a reason to cancel homework time.  Homework help is available through Homework Hotline by calling 799.5111.

Help with Organization!

Every child in school receives a planner when they start school.  This planner is one more way you as the parent can help your child succeed.  Look through the planner on a daily basis and ask your student what is happening in the classroom.  Look at the passport at the back of the planner to find out how often your child is out of the classroom.  Finally, take some time during the weekend to help organize your child’s backpack and get ready for the next week.

By working as a team, you and your child can have a successful and empowering few years here at KO Knudson Middle School.
