These words or phrases are called context clues. They are built into the sentences around the difficult word and can be used to help you determine what an unknown word means. Mr. Say shares what his grandfather experienced and how his grandfather felt about leaving his homeland. Genre: Narrative Text A narrative text is a story based on personal experience. The author's life mirrors that of his grandfather in this story. Story Skill: Author's Opinion When trying to identify an author's opinion first we must be able to distinguish between opinions and facts. An opinion is what a person thinks or believes, while a fact is a statement that can be proven. We can learn about an author's opinion through the author's words, thoughts, feelings, and actions while he narrates his story.
