Here is what is going on in our classroom:
In Reading we are reading "The Last Dragon" and practicing how to diagram a plot. Students are learning about exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. We are not currently working on a book club project. Students should be reading for 20 minutes each night and writing a summary of what they read.
In Reading Enrichment we are learning how to use new vocabulary. Students brought home a flyer letting parents/guardians know about the words we are working on this week. They are completing a challenge to use their new words in a story.
In Math we are returning to the Decimal unit. Students will be working on identifying decimals, writing their word names, finding equivalent decimals, placing decimals on number lines, and writing decimals in expanded notation.
In Science we are working on the Water Cycle unit. We will be completing a webquest on the water cycle in class and will be creating a water cycle digital book.
Social Studies will begin at the end of the Science unit. We will be learning about the early Native Americans of Maryland. They will complete an online tour of an authentic Native American village, explore trading between Native American tribes, and learn how colonization impacted the tribes in Maryland.
In Writing we have just completed writing a letter to the fifth grade class asking them about what fifth grade is like and what students can expect next year. We are beginning an online poetry unit where students are writing poems and publishing them online.
