Classroom News

Here is what is going on in our classroom:     

In Reading we are reading the article "The Name Game".  We will be learning about cause and effect.  Students should continue to work on their November book project.  Remember if you have lost the directions you can print them out by going to the Reading page and clicking on the red Book Report button. 

Enrichment class Group C are going to be reading scary stories and creating scripts based on the story. Once their scripts are done they will perform the play for the class.  There scripts, and possibly their performances, will be posted to http://readerstheaterwriting.wikispaces.com/ and on their Enrichment page on the classroom webpage.

In Math we are beginning our sixth unit, Multiplying by 1-Digit Numbers.  Look for the unit Family Letter to come home with the unit vocabulary and a possible activity to do with your child.  During the unit we will be learning about various ways to multiply and if answers are reasonable.  If your child has forgotten their homework, they have been attached to the Math Class section of our classroom site.  Click on the yellow circle containing Chapter 6, find the lesson number, and click on it.  Choose your homework and print it out.

The first Science unit, Food Chains and Webs has been very exciting.   Students have learned about the adaptation necessary for animals and plants to survive in a habitat and have created their own plants with adaptations necessary to the desert.  We have also used a resurrection plant to show a unique plant adaptation.  To check out what we have been doing in class go to the Science page.

 Social Studies we will begin on November 2nd.  Our first unit will be The Land and Settlement of Maryland.  We will be learning about Maryland's land, water, and regions, the Paleo-Indians and Woodland Indians of Maryland, and map skills.  Then we will focus on the settlement of Maryland and the growth of the Maryland colony.

In Writing we are connecting our writing to our Science unit.  Students will be writing to inform about what they are learning during the Food Chains and Webs unit.
