Animal Habitats and How Animals Fit in Food Chains and Food Webs
You are going to learn about habitats, the animals that live in different habitats, and how these animals fit into the food chains and/or food webs of their habitat. You will read for information about habitats, animals, food chains, and food webs. After reading you will complete interactive activities such as identifying the features of animals that require them to live in a specific habitat and create a food chain.
African American History and Maryland's Contributions
You are going to learn about important people and events in African American history through biographies and interactive timelines. Then you will learn about important African Americans who have contributed to the history of Maryland. Since learning is never done, the learning activities end with a list of sites you can continue to explore.
Graphing, Mean, Median, Mode, and Range
You will learn about the different types of graphs, mean, median, mode, and range. You will also practice creating and interpreting graphs.
Time
You will be reviewing and practicing time concepts including telling time to the hour, minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, and half hour. You will also be practicing elapsed time and answer time word problems.
Money
Review and practice money skills including identifying money values, adding and subtracting money, finding change, using the fewest amount of coins, and solving real world money problems. Also learn the difference between wants and needs and learn about the history of money.
Number Sense (Place Value)
You will practice number sense skills. Included in the activity are identifying place values, writing numbers in standard form, word form, and expanded notation, rounding, and estimating.
Decimals
You will review and practice decimals concepts in this activity including the definition of a decimal, how to identify a decimal on a decimal square, how to identify decimals on a number line, comparing decimals, rounding decimals, and adding and subtracting decimals.
Measure It! Customary and Metric Units
You will learn about customary and metric units of length and how to read a ruler. The lesson contains practice measuring to the nearest whole, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 inch, measuring with non-standard units, measuring to the nearest centimeter, and converting measurements. You will also practice by measuring ourselves to using different units of measure.
What Are Fractions? Just the Basics
You are going to learn about the basics of fractions. What is a fraction? What are the parts of a fraction called? Can you identify a fraction amount? What are improper and mixed fractions? How do I compare fractions and put them in order?
Find Equivalent Fractions, Simplify Fractions, and Add and Subtract Fractions
You are going to learn about and practice finding equivalent fractions, how to simplify fractions, and how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators. Then you will complete two challenge problems and review all the concepts in the fraction unit using an interactive site.
Ratio & Probability
You will review the concept of probability and demonstrate our probability skills with interactive activities.
Understanding Poetry
We will be reviewing the elements of poetry and completing interactive activities to practice identifying the elements. We will also learn about the types of poetry.
Become a Poet!
We will learn about types of poetry, read poems, create our own poems using interactive poem writers, and publish our poetry online.
Practice Reading Comprehension Strategies
We will be using power points created by me that were used in class to review reading strategies. After reviewing each skill we will be practicing our skills using interactive activities. Skills covered are story elements, setting, chronological order, character traits, and theme.
