School Social Work at DPS

Welcome!

I am pleased to manage the Donald P. Sutherland School Social Work page on our school website.  I hope that this will be both informational and fun for you to review during the school year.  First, I would like to answer some general questions pertaining to this discipline at D.P.S.

Who Am I? 

My name is Tiffany Rinehimer and I am the School Social Worker at Donald P. Sutherland School.  I have a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW),  hold a New York State Public School Teacher Certificate (certification area School Social Worker) and I am a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State. 

What is School Social Work?

School Social Work is a generalist practice meaning that as a school social worker I act as a teacher, a referral source, a networker, a researcher, a counselor to students and families in our school community.  School social work services allow students the opportunity to meet with me to discuss personal, social, family, physical and school adjustment issues.  School social work includes therapeutic approaches to helping students to meet social, behavioral and emotional needs so that they be successful in the academic environment.
