6th Grade Literature Class

The focus of our literature class is on developing critical thinking skills which will involve forming ideas, as opposed to just locating answers within a text.  This will require participation in both whole and small group discussion and a significant amount of writing.  We will be reading several classroom novels as well as selections from the literature textbooks. You will experience a variety of genres, including historical fiction, fantasy, mystery/adventure, nonfiction, realistic fiction, and biographies. My goals this year are to increase your fluency, vocabulary,  comprehension, and critical thinking skills, but most of all I hope you develop a life-long love of reading!!

75% of your child's grade will be class work - (25% Test Scores and 50% daily work) and 25% of your child's grade will come from independent reading.

HOMEWORK - You will be expected to read at least one hour per week outside of school.
