In Literature (LIT) our textbook is the Language of Literature. This quarter we'll be exploring

Unit 1: Learning from Experience and developing effective strategies for reading in all formats. Our first literacy circle experience will involve the timeless story of acceptance and identity, The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton. We'll also practice vocabulary; as a class by exploring the first (1-25) of our 100 Greek and Latin Roots, and independently in our Wordskills workbook and respond to all forms of literature in our readers workshop.

In Language Arts (LA) this quarter we will build our skills in grammar, usage and mechanics; collaboratively through classroom practice and then independently using the textbook The Language Network chapters 1, 8, 10, 11, 12, 17 & 18. We'll focus on descriptive writing, incorporating the 6 traits of effective writing. Spelling will be addressed in all our endeavors.
