This week we will read a nonfiction story called Helen Keller and the Big Storm which is about a Helen Keller and an unexpected storm. In spelling, we will work with words with /ue/ and /oo/. Our test will be on Friday. We will work with fact and opinion. In grammar we will continue to learn about adverbs. We will continue our next chapter on counting money. We will work with counting pennies, dimes, nickels, and quarters. Three digit addition with regrouping will be taught and practiced as well. We will also continue to review our math facts. We will practice how to solve word problems using our problem solving model. We will continue to work through the cursive alphabet. We will celebrate Valentine's Day and learn about the lives and accomplishments of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Welcome to my newsletter! Here is where you should look each week to find out what is going on each week. I typically update my web page on a Sunday night for the upcoming week. I do add last minute things as well as they turn up, so here is your best place to look for information.

Slide shows were added from the 100th Day of School.

Valentine's lists were sent home. There is an informational page on my web site about this as well. There are 19 students in the class. Please do not send in the cards until our bags are in place. Cards may be brought in starting the 8th until the 14th.

The PTO will kick off its spring fundraiser on February 3rd. The sale will continue through February 21st.

Book orders are due the 16th if interested.

As the weather becomes colder and unpredictable, please make sure your child is wearing a warm jacket and bringing a hat and gloves for recess. We do go outside most days weather permitting.

Just a reminder that for the 3rd and 4th marking periods we will be working with both addition and subtraction facts. Be sure to practice both sets of cards.

February Book It was sent home and is due back by February 29, 2012.

Passwords for Study Island and DORA were sent home in Friday Folders. You can use both programs at home through the Peters web site. Fast Math is an at school only program at this time. You may also use Tumble Books or any sites on my web page. Again, I suggest previewing first since some may have pop up ads.

For the safety of all kids in our school, please make sure your child washes their hands before coming to school if they have eaten peanut products.

Don't forget about Study Island and DORA. You can access the program at home using the user name and password I will be sending home.

Every Day Reminders...

Be sure to practice your math facts a few minutes each night. We will be having checks a few times each week. Be sure to return your math facts to school each day.

Make sure homework folders (Keep at Home side) are emptied each evening. Homework is assigned every night except Friday and should be in the Return to School side.

If you are picking your child up from school, please remember to call or send in a note. Thank you!

If your child is absent, please send in an excuse note the next day for the office to prevent an illegal absence.

Be sure to click on the calendar tab at the left each week to see what other things may be scheduled or when we have our special classes.

Please keep the math help reference sheet in the front of your child's homework folder and the spelling list in the back. We use both during the week in class. Thank you!

To help prevent the spread of colds and germs, please continue to encourage your child to cough in the their arm and wash their hands regularly. We have hand sanitizer in our classroom as well to use.
