Here is the news for the week of:

November 16- 20, 2009

Be sure to check back here each week for my newsletter.   I will have it updated every Sunday so be sure to check back anytime after then for upcoming news and events. New events are now in red.

What will we do this week?

This week we will  read our next story Brementown Musicians.  This is a story about a group of animals who want to be musicians.  Main idea, details, character, setting, realism, and fantasy will be reviewed and practiced.   In spelling we will work with singular and plural words.  Our test will be on Friday.  In grammar we will continue learning how to make words plural.  In math, we will continue to practice all our addition math facts.  We will begin our next unit of study on subtraction. We will subtract all or zero and count back to subtract.  We will start making our subtraction math facts next week.  In social studies, we will continue our unit on Native Americans and learn about the Northwest tribe.  We will also learn about pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving.

Book It has been sent home.  November Book It is due back to school by December 2, 2009.

We have created all of our addition math facts.  Please take a few minutes each night to practice. Return the math card envelope each day so we can practice our facts at school as well.

Conference letters were sent home the first week of November.  Please sign and return the bottom portion a.s.a.p. so I can begin the rescheduling process.  Evening appointments are filled up at this time.  Conferences will be held November 19 through the 24th.  The children will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m.  You will receive your child's report card at the conference.  The schools will be closed on November 25, 2009 for a Teacher Inservice Day.

Friday Folders were not sent home this past week.  I will send home the papers at our conference.

The school will be closed November 26 - 30th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

To help prevent the spread of colds and germs, please continue to encourage your child to cough in the their arm and wash their hands regularly.  We have hand sanitizer in our classroom as well to use.

Every Day Reminders...

Be sure to practice your math facts a few minutes each night. We will be having checks a few times each week.  Be sure to return your math facts to school each day.

Make sure homework folders (Keep at Home side) are emptied each evening.  Homework is assigned every night except Friday and should be in the Return to School side.

If you are picking your child up from school, please remember to call or send in a note.  Thank you!

Be sure to click on the calendar tab at the left each week to see what other things may be scheduled or when we have our special classes.

Please keep the math help reference sheet in the front of your child's homework folder and the spelling list in the back.  We use both during the week in class.  Thank you!

I have created a new link section for spelling review games under the link section of the web site.  Check out Spelling City and click on the title of the story we are reading this week to play. (You may need to hit for the 2nd page)

Have a wonderful week!
