Staying involved in your child's education is the key to a successful year. Engage your child in conversation about his/her day, but know that children won't always give out much information. Check the Ettinger Express web page detailing our activities for the week. You can use this as a springboard for discussion; instead of saying "What did you do at school today?" (the answer is often "nothing!"), you can say, "Oh, I see you're learning about....what did you find out?" Another way to stay involved is to check your child's take home folder EVERY evening. You'll usually find it PACKED with school and homework papers, projects, flyers, notices from the office, as well as notes from me. As daunting as it may be, try to sort through them, and read each one; they often contain important information and reminders. Your child should come to school the next day with a fairly empty folder -- just homework or notes to me!
Absent
If your child is going to be absent, please arrange to get his/her homework. I have sent home a Request for Names sheet. Please complete and return the form as soon as possible. If you would like to pick up your child's work, please leave a message on my answering machine in the a.m. by 11:00 a.m. I will gather it and leave it on the office counter for pick up at the end of the day. Please fill out an excuse blank as well for the office. If you need to take your child out of school for a religious holiday, vacation, or other circumstance, you must complete an educational trip form prior to the absence. If one is needed, let me know and I'll send it home in your child's homework folder. Birthdays
If you wish to send treats on your child's birthday, please send one for each student in the classroom (currently, we have 21 students). Please do NOT send whole cakes requiring cutting. Students with summer birthdays We will celebrate summer birthdays the last week of school. If you don’t want our class to celebrate your child’s birthday, please send me a note. To build on our healthy schools initiative, we are encouraging healthy snack choices.
