Grading Policy

Dear Parents,

Science is a class that requires a lot of study.  There is so much new information that will need to be learned over their middle school years.  They will be required to take a science TAKS in the 8^th grade.  In order to be successful they will need to retain information from year to year.  In the following grading policy you will notice that the test and vocabulary will be a large percentage of their average.  My reason is to encourage the students to study and learn the material.    The following is a copy of my grading policy.

15% - Bell       

                        25% - Daily Grades     

                        30% - Vocab              

                        30% - Test                  

A unit of study will usually last approximately 7-10 days.  There are many circumstances that can delay this schedule.  Therefore, there will not be a designated test schedule.  I will let the students know in advance before a test is given. (check planners and my web page for test dates)

Students will be given review sheets at least a week in advance.  I will allow retakes on test ONLY.  However, the make-up test will be much more difficult than the original.  The initial test will be mostly multiple choice, matching and fill in the blank.  From time to time they will have a couple of short answer problems.  The make-up test will be short answer and essay.  If a student misses a test and they were at school to receive the review sheet and test date they will be required to take the test the day they return to school.  Encourage your student to begin study for test and quizzes the day they receive the information.  This not only builds good study habits but it allows them to learn the information more effectively.

Late daily work will be docked 10 points every day it is late.  After 10 days the paper will not longer be accepted and will be a zero.  If it is less than 10 days before the end of the six weeks, the papers will be due on the last day of the six weeks or they will be a zero.
