Awards Awards

So you can get a better idea of who I am, here is a list of awards and activities.  I have limited the activities to the ones that directly affect JP2.

Professional Awards:

  •  2003 Radio Shack National Teacher Award Winner
  •  2003 Association of Texas Profession Educators Grant for Teaching Excellence Award
  •  2000 Texas Chemistry Teacher of the Year, Associated Chemistry Teachers of Texas
  •  1998 VIP Award from Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD
  •  1996 Walmart Teacher of the Year.
  •  1995 Teacher of the Year for Garland ISD.
  •  1995 Teacher of the Year for South Garland High School.
Other Recognitions:

  • Named as one of the top 35 educators in the State of Texas.  This honor was in the book Top Texas Teachers by Dorothy McConachie.
  • Named to Who's Who Among America's Teachers.
  • Nominated: Disney's America Teacher's Award 2001
  • Nominated: Texas Excellence Award for Outstanding High School Teachers, 1996.
  • Nominated: Reader's Digest Unsung Heroes in American Education Award 1994 and 1996.
  • Nominated: Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching for 1994.
  • Nominated: Catalyst Award for Outstanding High School Chemistry Teachers, 1994 and 1996.
  • Nominated: Werner Schultz Award for Chemistry teachers, American Chemical Society.

Professional Activities:

  • Endosed College Board Consultant for Advanced Placement Chemistry
  • State of Texas Chemistry Textbook Adoption Committee 2001
  • Author of Advanced Placement Chemistry Laboratory Manual.
  • Author of Advanced Placement Chemistry Study Material review book.
  • Wrote Chemistry-I and Chemistry-II Advanced Placement curriculum for two different districts and for JP2.
  • Attended National Science Teachers Associations national convention in 1998 and 1993.
  • Attended Science Teachers Association of Texas Conference for Advancement of  Science Teaching (CAST) in since 1993. 
  • Have presented workshops at CAST on  the Van de Graaff generator, multiple choice strategies on the AP Chemistry exam and TAKS/AP Chemistry Graphs.
  • Presented worksop on using movies to teach the global learner chemistry at the Southwest Regional Meeting of the ACS. 

School Activities:

  • Train students to perform a traveling science show, 1995 to 2005.Announcer for basketball games, half time shows and emcee for pep rallies.
  • University Interscholastic League sponsor for Science 1990 to 2005.
  • TAPPS sponsor for Science.
  • Speech/Interview Judge for Academic Decathlon 1992 to present.
