Saint Aloysius Band Program Instrumental Music Program (IMP) of Wilmington, DE has existed since 1973 teaching in private and parochial schools. The program reaches into four states; DE, MD, NJ and PA. All teaching staff members are certified teachers. This program is open to all students in grades four through eight. IMP is a tuition based program. Once enrolled, parents pay a monthly rate for the lesson, rehearsal and ensemble music to be provided. The 2009-2010 rate is $45 for a single enrollment and $70.00 for a family of two or more from the same family. This fee is for the teaching, rehearsals and ensemble music only - it does not provide the use of an instrument. At St. Aloysius, IMP currently operates September through May on Thursday. Group lessons are one-half hour in length and held on school time. This means students are dismissed from their class for that period of time to attend their group lesson. This lesson time is different each week so students do not miss the same academic time slot week after week. Each classroom is provided with the lesson schedule. Recruitment and enrollment of students for the each school year occurs in September. The instructor demonstrates the instruments after which enrollment materials are sent home. A parent information meeting is held the week following the student assembly. Parents may enroll their children at this time. Information concerning acquiring an instrument is also made available at this meeting. Lessons for returning students usually begin the first full week of classes after the opening of school. First year students begin lessons two weeks after the parent information meeting. This first lesson usually occurs the last week in September. Band rehearsals are held before school for the experienced students and during the noon recess for first year students. Each rehearsal is also one-half hour in length. Concerts are scheduled for December and May. The band or a smaller ensemble is often asked to provide music for school functions and Mass.
