                                       LEAP AT ST. PATRICKS

LEAP is an enrichment program that has been developed

on several different  educational models that encompass

higher order thinking skills.  These models include Dr. Renzulli's

Enrichment Triad Model (ETM) and Dr. Benjamin Bloom's

Taxonomy of Thinking Skills.  ETM is designed so that students

gain an insight to their own learning styles, interests, and

          abilities.

This model favors a problem solving approach in order to

develop more meaningful understanding.  Through active

problem solving students will naturally progress into the

higher order thinking skills of Blooms Taxonomy.  With its

small group approach students are also able to  work within

          their own multiple intelligence areas.

Students are exposed to a varied selection of print

material.  Units for every grade level are interdisciplinary

developed emphasizing science, math, art, social studies,

and language arts.  Students will be assessed based upon

selected North Carolina standard goals and classroom

objectives.  Individual grades will be reported to the class-

room teacher.  These grades will be incorporated into the

          student's reading average.

Qualifying for LEAP in the primary grades is based on the

DIBELS TEST.  (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy

Skills).   Student enrollment in LEAP is fluid depending on

consistent benchmark attainment.    In Grades 3-5

acceptance  into the program is based on the ITBS (Iowa

          Test of Basic Skills).

In the primary grades 1-2 and 3, students attend LEAP

daily for 30 minutes.  The grades 4-5 attend daily for 45

           minutes.
