In my classroom, children work on their spelling as a class as well as individually. Each week there is a spelling pattern that is worked on as well as "High Frequency Words." High Frequency Words (H.F.W.) are words that we read and write often and everyone "should" know how to spell. Before the week begins I look over the High Frequency Word list to see if any words will match our spelling pattern. On the back of the kids' spelling test I give them a pretest of these High Frequency Words that match. Some weeks there are 9, sometimes there are 15. It all depends. When I correct their spelling test I record which H.F.W. they have to "take" for their spelling words next week. The balance of their words they choose from the list I have given them of words that follow the spelling pattern.
Kids lists have a common spelling pattern, but the words they have chosen could be different. It is therefore very important that kids bring home their agenda books or spelling folders. I will post the spelling pattern and H.F.W. for that week, but I can't help you remember all the words your child has.
Kids also have "Spelling Buddies". The Buddy is responsible for giving the spelling test on Thursday - remember- everyone has different words so I can't do it. I DO however, correct the tests.
