The director of bands at Benton Community high school is Mr. Scott Weber. Weber is beginning his 11th year as a music educator in the state of Iowa and is currently a member of Notheast Iowa Bandmasters Association, Iowa Bandmasters Association, and the Music Educators National Conference. Mr. Weber started his teaching career with six wonderful years in Springville, Iowa. Mr. Weber graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in music education in 2001. Mr. Weber earned his Masters in Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois in July of 2010. He has been honored with the KCRG A+ for education award twice (2002 and 2006) and has been honored with the "Special Teacher Award" through the Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation in 2003. In 2009 he was awarded the Special Teacher of the Year award through FFA chapter at Benton Community. In 2008 and 2009, Weber was nominated for the Governor's Scholar Recognition Program by his students. Mr. Weber recently lead his Marching Bobcats into Chicago, Illinois on Thanksgiving morning, 2010, to participate in the Chicago McDonalds Thanksgiving Day parade, which is the second largest parade in world and viewed by over one hundred million people world wide! Mr. Weber and his wife Carly (Editor for Hoopla Magazine) live in Cedar Rapids and have three children; Kaden, Norah and Andrew. Mr. Weber is a very proud Cubs, Hawkeye, Blackhawks and Miami Dolphins fan!
