Mrs. Roche’s Grading Policy Tests are given upon the completion of each chapter and are worth 100 points. Quizzes are given as the need arises. The point value of quizzes depends on the content Lab reports are usually worth 100 points An Activity report’s point value depends on the content of the activity Successful completion of all homework assignments for each quarter is worth 100 points each quarter. Five points will be deducted for each homework assignment missed or incomplete. If you are absent the day homework is assigned, you must make up the homework assignment within 2 days. Points will not be deducted for homework missed due to absence. Points deducted for missed homework assignments cannot be re-gained or made up. I often count work assigned when a substitute teacher is present as two homework assignments. Therefore, work not completed for a substitute teacher will result in a ten point deduction from your homework grade. I calculate my grades using a “running total”. I total the number of points available for that quarter, and the number of points the student achieved. I then divide the student’s points by the total number of points available and multiply by 100 to achieve the quarterly grade. Example | | Student score | Actual point value | | Chapter 1 test | 85 | 100 | | Lab report | 82 | 100 | | Quiz | 42 | 50 | | Homework | 90 | 100 | | Total points | 299 | 350 | The student’s grade for this quarter would be (299/350)x100 = 85% Note regarding the homework grade: The homework grade is calculated only once, at the end of each quarter. It is not included in the calculated grade at any other time, including the progress report grade. On the progress report I will note the number of homework assignments missed by the student at the time the progress report is issued.
