Drink Water How and why to drink water: The body is approximately 70% water. The water content of the brain is almost 90%. The body needs water so it can work properly. Water is necessary in the body for transmission of nerve impulses and to allow information storage and retrieval. Without water, the body becomes dehydrated; nerve impulses can't be sent and remembering information and retrieving information can't be done. All academic skills are improved by adequate hydration. It is especially necessary during times of stress or before taking a test. The body only recognizes plain water as water. Water-based beverages don't count. The body recognizes coffee, tea, soda, energy drinks, etc. as food and processes them as such. Even flavored water, such as lemon-water does not count. It must be plain water. How much water you need to drink: Every day the body needs one ounce of water for every three pounds you weigh. So, if you weigh 120 pounds, you need to drink 5 glasses of water per day to stay properly "watered". Otherwise, the body starts to dry up.
