The mission of the Bluebonnet Elementary Library is to partner with the school community to support student learning, provide recreational reading, and to educate students about a multitude of information resources.

The Bluebonnet Library cares for all of its books and resources.  For any book that is lost or damaged, the replacement fee will be the current replacement cost.  Other campuses have sent fine lists, so existing fines must be paid BEFORE your child can check out a book at Bluebonnet.  If you have any questions regarding the library’s policies and procedures please contact the librarian, Susan Moneyhon, at 398-0929 or by email susan.moneyhon@lockhart.txed.net.

The library offers many motivational programs to encourage students to read.  These programs are in addition to your child’s scheduled library time.

Volunteers are needed in the library!  Please call the library if you have any time available.  We will especially need volunteers during book fairs.

Birthday Books

Are you looking for the perfect gift for the kid who has everything?  Why not give him/her a gift that keeps on giving.  What could this amazing, too good to be true gift be…..a library book!  When you purchase a library book for your child we will put a special dedication plate in the book with your his/her name on it.  Then, your child will be the first person to check out this book.  He/she can also dedicate a book to someone else for his/her special day.  Teachers, students, and staff appreciate this gift that also improves our library.

Book Fairs

There are three book fairs scheduled.  They are scheduled for the weeks beginning:

September 18th

December 3rd

March

Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a motivational reading program. Students read books and take tests based on these books.  As points are accumulated by taking the quizzes, the students receive prizes.  Students in first through fifth grade will receive engraved dog tags as they move through the set AR prize levels.  These AR Chains will be worn on Fridays.

Kindergarten students will earn points by taking AR quizzes, and they will use these points to buy items at an AR store.

Bluebonnet/Mockingbird/2X2 Challenge

Each year librarians across Texas vote for outstanding books.  Students in Pre-Kindergarten through Kindergarten read 2X2 award books, first and second grade students read Mockingbird books, and students in third grade through fifth grade read Bluebonnet books.  Students at Bluebonnet are challenged to read all their award books by January to be eligible for prizes and to vote for their favorite book.  Prize levels by grade level will be announced in September.

Six Hour Reading Club

In the spring students will be able to earn tickets to Six Flags by reading!  More information to come later.

Bluebonnet Readers

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students participate in the Bluebonnet Reader program.  Students are given reading logs containing spaces for twenty-five books.  After completing each log, students return them to the library to receive prizes.  Students who complete four sheets receive a free T-shirt.
