Grade 6 will work on many projects in the computer lab this year. Some will be assigned by their Middle School teachers, and others will be part of the computer class curriculum. Word: Many classroom assignments will be typed. Students should have good word-processing skills coming in to 6th grade. Additional wordprocessing skills will be taught. As we did in 5th grade as part of the 50 States project, a tri-fold brochure will be among the MS-Word projects. 6th graders will also create a three column newsletter. Excel: There will be a test. Basic spreadsheet skills will be reviewed and taught: organizing data, sorting data, creating graphs and pie charts, formulas, etc. PowerPoint: Greek god or goddess oral presentation using the notes function of PowerPoint. Several advanced features of PowerPoint are to be utilized in this presentation. The Silent Movie: After veiwing many classic silent movies, students are filming their own. They are learning to use digital video cameras, download video into MovieMaker software, edit their video, add music, and edit the sound tracks including adjusting volume levels.
