National Engineer's Week: Future City Competition! SAVE THE DATE: January 14, 2012
Competition begins at 8am at Hudson Valley Community College.
All are welcome! We hope to send 3 teams, from grades 6, 7 & 8, again this year. - SimCity4 Deluxe Model due November 18, 2011.
- 1000 word Essay on Healthcare Product due December 16, 2011.
- 500 word Narrative (based on completed model) due January 5, 2012.
- Regional Competition including 5- 7 minutes presentation at HVCC on January 14, 2012
- Nationals in Washington DC on February 17-22, 2012.
Future City Club: meets Tuesdays 2:00- 3:30pm.- Engineer mentors are needed to work with 6th and 8th grade teams.
- Thank you to Mr. Fitz-James for agreeing to help us with the 7th grade team again this year.
- FC News: We have received over $400.00 worth of licenses to the newest version of SimCity 4 Deluxe this year from Future City.
Our Task: - Design the city of the future in SimCity4Deluxe. Learn about infrastructure.
- Explore the engineering of cities, production of electricity, environmental protections. Dream the future, and create a futuristic vision for the essay component of the competition.
- Build a scale model of a representative portion of your city. Describe all aspects in 500 words.
- Present your model and your engineering vision of the future to real engineers and public officials.
Future Future City Club - for Grades 4-6, beginning Feb. 28, 2012 - Students learn SimCity4 Deluxe Software.
- Students learn to build scale models.
- Students imagine future technologies, future lifestyles, and futuristic building design and engineering.
- Students prepare for the National Engineers Week: Future City Competition.
- Students learn the 21st Century Skills it takes to win, from experienced Future City Winners from grades 7 & 8.
