Dear Families,

Another great week of reading and writing!  This week had less morning interruptions, which allowed us to read together in small groups everyday!  As the new sight words and word families are introduced, please don’t forget to continue to practice the old ones.  We want the kids to blend sounds with ease and know their sight words in a snap!  Practice makes perfect!

Take Home Reader- Please read The Big Sun each night.  Use the story to help you complete your homework for Wednesday night.

Take Home Activities-Please complete your Take Home Activities using your neatest handwriting.  Keep up the spectacular homework.  You are fabulous first graders!

Mystery Word- Please cut out the letters at the bottom of the Mystery Word page.  Allow your child to rearrange the letters to build small words.  Try to use all the letters to decode the mystery word.  Feel free to get involved…we try to make this activity fun for the whole family!

Reading- Please set aside 15-20 minutes EVERY night for your child to read to you.  Nightly reading is by far the MOST important part of our weekly homework.

Friday Journal- Your child’s Friday Journal came home today.  Please let him/her read his/her entry to you.  Write a positive note to your child about his/her entry on the same page.  Send this back to school on Monday!
