Second Grade Reading and Writing

Below is a list of second grade skills, concepts and literature I will be covering with students this week.  We have so much fun reading, writing and making connections together!

October 14th- 17th

-We'll continue to work on story writing with third grade writing partners.  On Friday, we will read our leveled reader together and discuss main idea.

-Making and checking predictions with the use of a "Predict and Check" graphic organizer and the leveled reader, Janie In Old California

-Reading and sorting long o and long i words in the poem "My Goat Tom".

-Blending long o and long i words using spelling patterns- i, y, igh, o, oa, oe, ow.

-Reading independent level books from individual book bags and responding to the book using a "making connections" graphic organizer.

-Writing a personal narrative (also known as a "small moment") by zooming in on one small moment in time that is important to the writer and sharing the moment from beginning to middle to end.

-Using personalized word walls to encourage accuracy with spelling and evaluating writing using a rubric.
