Analytical Reading and Writing III: Justice in Literature will be offered beginning on September 16 2009 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 - 4:45.

Overview:

In this course, students will study several aspects of the theme of justice. The short fiction, essays, novels, and articles will enable students to study the moral and legal definitions of justice, the images and characters that illustrate themes of justice, and how our perceptions of justice have shaped our values and language.  From divine justice to the justice of man, students will explore what justice has meant and ought to mean in our society.

As in the previous seminars, analytical reading and writing will be the focus of this course.  Students will continue to hone the basic skills learned in the introductory seminar and will learn how to increase the complexity and quality of their writing.  Students will be required to complete several small writing assignments, a take-home Midterm Examination and one 5-7 page essay at the conclusion of the seminar.  All assignments must be typed.
