Heil's Happenings

for the week of:  November 16-20, 2009

This week we read our story, The Bremen Town Musicians, in reading. It was a fairy tale retold as a a play. Our spelling list was plural words. We learned about five different ways to make a noun plural.  In math we learned about fact families. We began our social studies unit on communities.

Next week, our story is called A Turkey for Thanksgiving. It is a story about some animals who invite a turkey to eat Thanksgiving dinner with them and he is surprised that he is not the meal.  Our spelling words will practice different ways to spell the long a sound. There will not be a test on them because we have such a short week.  We will continue to practice subtraction in math. We will make the next twelve subtraction flashcards. We will continue a social studies unit on our community next week.

PARENT NEWS-

*Friday envelopes were sent home today. Please empty, sign, and return on Monday.

* Conferences will continue to be held next Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 23 and 24. Please come at your scheduled time. I look forward to seeing you then. Also, don't forget that there are 1:15 dismissals on all conference days.

*Schools are closed next Wednesday, Nov. 25, for teacher in-service. And schools are also closed from Thursday, Nov. 26 through Monday, Nov. 30, for Thanksgiving break.

*We are currently collecting canned goods and other necessity items for the Northern Lehigh Food Bank. Items can be sent to school up until and including Nov. 24. Thank you!

*Please have children wear sneakers next Tuesday for an all- school fitness day.

*Monday begins with cycle day 6.
