I am fascinated by the power of language. It should never be underestimated.  Subtle changes in the grammar, mechanics, and manipulation of language produce profound reactions in human behavior.  Initially, I studied journalism and public relations; then, in graduate school, I studied the humanities. This focus on classic literature and art, along with my fascination with the nuances of individual cultures, drew me to the educational sphere.

Together we will explore the importance and relevance of language in our world and will examine how literature not only expresses what it means to be a human being, but how it is reflected in our culture each and every day.  The allusions to literature are all around us in 21st century movies, headlines, media, comic strips, and many other places.  It is up to us to recognize and understand them.  Only then can we fully comprehend the world in which we live.

My goal is to assist all of my students in understanding and wielding the power of language as well as helping them to become culturally literate members of our society.  I am thrilled that you (my students) are along for this fascinating journey.
