Welcome to Second Grade!

Religion: In unit 5, we will learn that the Holy Spirit is our helper, guide, and teacher. We will understand that Jesus teaches us to live in peace and treat everyone with justice.

Reading: We are beginning our last unit. We will finish the year reinforcing the skills we have learned this year.

Writing: We have been working on expository writing. The class chose a favorite sport or activity. They each wrote a guide that explained how to play or do what they chose.

This month we will be writing poems to go along with our butterfly activity.

Math: We completed our unit on geometry and fractions. We are now working on telling time in five minute intervals. We will finish the year working on graphs,place value to 1,000,three digit addition and subtraction,and measurement.

Social Studies: In unit 5, we learned about the beginning history of our country. In unit 6, we will learn about important people and places from the past.

Science: Our caterpillars have arrived! We are keeping a butterfly journal and recording the growth and changes we observe. If we are lucky, we will be in school when our painted lady butterflies emerge from their chrysalis.

Congratulations to all the Second Graders who received First Holy Communion on May 2nd!
