Holy Trinity is committed to meeting the needs, interests and abilities of each of its students. Our teachers provide a variety of learning opportunities which address the varying ability and achievement level of all students. Beyond the Classroom offers additional educational opportunities to our intellectually and academically gifted students.

Program Goals

To provide students with the opportunity to:

  • develop both creative and higher order thinking skills
  • develop research skills
  • develop communication skills
  • become a self-directed learner
  • develop a positive self concept
  • instill learning as a life-long process

Program Components

Kindergarten

Whole class lessons are conducted by the BTC teacher using the K-PETS program, (Kindergarten-Primary Education Thinking Skills.) This program introduces students to higher-level thinking skills and sets the stage for the series to continue in grades 1-3.

1st and 2nd Grade

The P.E.T.S. program continues with the BTC teacher conducting whole class lessons. The entire class is given the opportunity to experience challenging thinking activities. Based on the classroom teacher's and the BTC teacher's observations, a small group of students is then given further opportunities to explore that particular thinking skill in a variety of in-depth activities.

3rd Grade

The first semester of the year continues with whole class/small group lessons using level 3 of the P.E.T.S. program. The SAGES test and the ITBS are then used as indentification instruments. During the second semester, identified students meet three days a week to explore various topics in a pull-out program. Other students may be revolved in for a unit based on teacher recommendations.

4th -6th Grade

Identified students meet three days a week and explore various topics. Other students may be revolved in for a unit based on teacher recommendations.
