Congratulations To Our Golden Bucket Award Winners: Our next bucket award winners are (drumroll please)....... Andres and Kendall Our next Lunch with the Principal will be on 1/18. We've been working on the following: Math We just finished chapter 9 on double digit addition. WOW we did great! Our next chapter will prove to be a little tougher as we are moving into double digit subtraction. Please make sure that you are looking over your child's homework so that they are not making common mistakes or falling into bad habits. Writer's Workshop In writing we started another piece about finding something that we thought we had lost. We are also learning how to add voice to our pieces. We continue to write back and forth with our pen pals and even got self portraits from them this last time! Reader's Workshop We are back to nonfiction now and are learning to take notes while reading. We have to identify the main idea and supporting details in non fiction. This isn't easy stuff but we are hanging in there! Science In science we are beginning our study of physical science. This will involve lots of balls and ramps. Don't be surprised if your budding scientist starts designing courses for their bouncy balls and marbles! | Social Studies
In social studies we will be learning about how our community has changed over time. We talked about what life was like 50-100 years ago and how it is now. We have looked at pictures of cities from the past and compared them to today. We will also be talking about our ancestors which will tie in nicely with our herritage project due next month. P.E. Our P.E. day is Friday (first thing in the morning with Coach Zarro). Music: Music continues to be amazing. We have learned so much in the short time that we have been playing. Each student has the opportunity to use several types of drums each time we go. It is getting more complicated (Mrs. Grindstaff is really having to pay attention to learn the right beats)!!! Make Spelling Fun! 1. Go to www.spellingcity.com 2. Go to find a list and type in grindstaff. You will be directed to my list under Shauna Grindstaff. 3. Take a Test on Monday and Thursday. 4. Play a game of your choice on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. BIRTHDAYS We would love to celebrate with all of our friends this year! I am asking that birthday treats this year consist of all fruit or juice popsicles that you are welcome to drop off in the morning. We will celebrate from 2-2:15 in our classroom. Also NO invitations may be passed out at school unless the entire class in invited. Thanks for your help with this. Happy birthday to the following friends: Isabel 1/1 Scotty 1/18 and happy belated birthday to all of our friends who had birthdays while we were on vacation... Jackson 12/21 Cecelia 12/23 Eden 12/23 Dominic 12/31 BRING IT ON HEARST HOUNDS! Calling All First In Math Superstars All Hearst students in grades 2-5 recently received their first in math passwords. Yes it looks like a game on the computer but your child really is practicing some amazing math skills. Every day we look to see who the player of the day is and each week the class with the most stickers for the week will receive a huge trophy! Come on B-3 let's get in the game and show Hearst students and families that we show what we know!!! If you need your child's password and login info again please let me know.
