LIBRARY CLASS
Reading will take you anywhere! |

WELCOME TO LIBRARY CLASS! Reading is the essential focus on students in kindergarten. In our multi-media center, students can get a chance see how the skill they learn in reading can help them develop into confident readers. We have an amazing array of books in our multi-media center. There is truly something for every interest and every level. Each class starts off with me reading a book, or a selection of books, to the class. Once again, the book titles I read are tied into the themes and seasons, as well as to the other four specials I teach. As we read, we develop concepts about books such as fiction/nonfiction, character, plot, author, illustrator, setting, and making inferences, just to name a few. The best part about library class is the children get to take home one hard-covered book! It is one of the most exciting things our students get to do. Please encourage the excitement by taking time with your child to read. We, as adults, must be good role models when it comes to reading. Read the book to your child. If possible, have your child read the book to you. If it is too advanced, then you may want to do some of the following activities with the book: 1. Have an older sibling read the book aloud to the family. 2. As you read the book, look for letters, sounds, or sight words your child may know. 3. Question them on some of the elements I discussed earlier. 4. Most of all, read to, and with, your child as much as possible. A FEW NOTES ABOUT BORROWING BOOKS 1. Keep the library book in a safe place, somewhere where you and your child won't forget. A good place would be your child's backpack. 2. Take good care of the books. They are quite expensive and hard to replace. Please don't let them set around where pets, food/drink, or younger siblings can ruin them. 3. If you lose a book, or a book is ruined beyond repair, you will have to replace the book. Mrs. Fiske, our library aide, will send you a bill for any book that is destroyed or lost. 4. If a book does get a rip or a small spill, that's ok. Please send it to school with your child and and a note and we will repair it. 5. Each book is due back on your child's next library day. Please keep track on which day of the cycle your child has library. Each class had a different schedule for library.
