COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY CLASSES
The future of our world relies on the technology we teach our children today! |

WELCOME TO THE TECHNOLOGY PAGE! (LESSONS TO BEGIN FEBRUARY 1, 2010)
Now I know what you're thinking, and yes, kindergarten students can and need to be introduced to the computer. In fact, the state of PA provides standards for kindergarten technology classes. This is a newly added special for our classes. During the course of the year, the children will be introduced to the following technology skills: 1. Identifying that a computer is a tool that consists of many parts working together. 2. A computer only does what it is told to do, it cannot think for itself. 3. Identifying the basic parts of a computer. 4. Using and understanding technology vocabulary such as click, icon, double-click, desktop, boot, restart, shut down, scroll, scroll bar, word processing, clip art, Internet, and exit, just to name a few. 5. Understand that the computer is a tool that can connect us to other people and places. 6. Use beginner word-processing and data collecting programs to create class books and projects. 7. Introduction to the Internet by teacher demonstration only. 8. Using many games and programs to practice simple hand/eye coordination and fine-motor skills. WE WILL NOT DO ANY FORM OF KEYBOARDING SKILLS OR INSTRUCTION! KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS ARE NOT DEVELOPMENTALLY READY TO LEARN KEYBOARDING SKILLS. We will however, learn to recognize the letters in our names and type our names and simple words. Our technology lab is a PC based room. Everything the students work on is always first demonstrated to the entire class. We have a technology projector in the lab that casts the desktop of my computer onto a large screen so all can see and practice together. Look for our first project to come home by the beginning of November. We will be creating an Autumn ABC book.
