About the Surf Club est. 2006

The LBHS Surf Club was founded by local resident, former student, current Math Teacher and club advisor, Danny Bobis in 2006.

The Long Beach High School Surf Club has been quite the success in it's first two years (2006-2008), boasting over 30 regular members and garnering a plethora of community support. Bi-weekly meetings not only played host to the latest surf video premiers and forums on the science, safety, technique, equipment, respect, competition and travel involved with surfing, but also have raised awareness about the environmental and humanitarian issues connected to the sport. We have organized and hosted a number of successful events such as beach clean ups that partnered with the Surfrider Foundation*, a surfboard shaping demonstration / Q & A session with a top regional surfboard shaper, a Surf Industry Night, as well as community wide “Board and Gear Swap” events. The club has received press in both the Long Beach Herald and Eastern Surfing Magazine on numerous occasions. The club has also done significant fundraising in order to get club stickers, shirts and sweatshirts made, in which part of the profits were donated to organizations such as Surfrider and Surf Aid International.
