Shaun Butler has been with the Ferndale School District since 1990. He taught for one year at Boysville of Michigan in Detroit prior to coming to Ferndale. Mr Butler has taught middle school history, physical education, health, computers and experiential education during his teaching tenure with the district while coaching cross country, track, basketball, volleyball and football at both the middle school and high school level.  Mr. Butler was also the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Coach at Oakland University. He has also served as the middle school assistant principal before taking on his current role as assistant principal and athletic director for Ferndale High School.

Mr. Butler has always been involved in athletics.  He was a standout basketball and cross country runner in high school at Dearborn St. Alphonsus. He earned All-Catholic in basketball and was the Class B Individual State Champion in Cross Country. Following high school he continued his education at Saginaw Valley State University where he earned his BA in education and was also a member of the track and cross country teams. While at Saginaw he earned All-American status twice in track and field. His interest and value of high school athletics is the driving force for his decision to pursue a career in education.  He believes educational athletics can profice the experiences that teach some of life's greatest lessons and skills  Mr. Butler strives to provide coaches and athletes the resources necessary for success in both the classroom and on the playing fields.
