Welcome to the Van Horne & Keystone Elementary Title I Reading & Math website!
I'm Mrs. Samantha Happel, the Title I Reading & Math Instructor at Van Horne & Keystone Elementaries. This site is designed to provide information about the Title I Reading & Math Program for grades K-2 at Van Horne Elementary and grades 3-5 at Keystone Elementary. It is a resource for emerging readers and their parents to find support and materials to help students as they learn to read critically and fluently, and to begin applying math concepts and skills.
The Title I Reading & Math program at Benton Community has been in place for over thirty years. It is a program sponsored by the federal government to help students who are delayed in learning reading and math.
My name is Samantha Happel. I graduated from the University of Iowa in May 2009 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (K-6), specializing in music (K-8) and reading (K-8). I just recently got married, hence the name change! My husband, Tyler, and I live in Victor, IA with our French bulldog, Oscar.
It is my hope that this website will aid in parent/teacher communication and clarify any questions you may have about the Title I program. I hope to update the section labeled Classroom News, located at the left of this page, bi-weekly to keep you informed of the skills/concepts we will be working on and to give you suggestions for continuity between home and school.
If you ever have any questions about the program or what this means for your child, please don't hesitate to contact me. I can be reached by email or by phone at either centers.
Have a great year, and GO BOBCATS!
