About me … 2012-2013 will be my 10th year at Camp Creek. I was a Kindergarten parapro for 3 years during which time I attended Mercer University to obtain my teaching certificate. This will be my 7th year teaching 4th grade. Before working as a parapro, I also substitute taught for a full year and spent 8 years working at the preschool in my church as a Pre-K teacher and as the Director. My only son, Nick, is a Camp Creek/Trickum/Parkview Alumni and will be a Sophomore at Georgia Southern this fall. I blame my career in education largely on him! I always say I didn’t realize how much I love working with children until I had one! My undergraduate degree is from Illinois State University with a major in Theatre – Acting/Directing. I still enjoy putting that degree to work in community theatre productions, church productions, and the classroom! I also have an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from Mercer University, which is where I returned to complete the requirements for my teaching certificate. My philosophy of teaching is pretty simple – have high expectations for every student; know and love your students; make learning fun, interesting, and engaging; encourage multiple viewpoints and approaches; teach to the AKS/Common Core (of course); help your students to be confident in their ability to learn, think, and problem solve; have fun; and find plenty of reasons to laugh. It is my hope that my students will come to enthusiastically embrace learning and will be better citizens because of their time spent with me.
